Amos: The Country Preacher               Listen to Sunday’s Message Pt. 1 / Pt. 2

Monday:

Amos noted that he was from Tekoa (1:1).  We find Amos prophesying in Bethel (7:10-17).  Bethel was known as one of the hot spots for cultic worship established by Jeroboam (1 Kings 12).  Amos was from the other side of the mountain range, from the southern kingdom of Judah and found himself in a foreign, hostile environment.

·         How did his background possibly help him?  How might it have hindered him?

·         When in your life have you been misunderstood or misrepresented?

·         What kept Amos going back or going?  What does it take for you to keep going?

·         Lord… please reveal Your word and will to me?  Empower me to be the Christian you want…

Tuesday:

·         (Amos 1:3-2:8)  What were the grievances God had against His people?

·         In what ways did Judah and Israel’s sins differ from those in the surrounding countries?

·         What is the collateral damage done to our culture when Christians willfully sin?

·         Describe the concept of “compartmentalization”.  How does that affect you?

·         Lord… please reveal to me in Your word, by Your Spirit, my blind spots and shortcomings?

·         (1 John 1:8-10)  I confess to you  please forgive me for… cleanse me from…

Wednesday:

·         (Amos 3:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22)  What place do the Scriptures play in the life of a believer?

·         What place would you say the Scriptures have in your life?  What would the Holy Spirit say?

·         Lord… reveal your plans to be through Your Word.

·         Lord… by your grace help me to obey You, follow You, serve You… through the Holy Spirit!

Thursday:

·         When in your life have you, or someone close to you, experienced a famine?

·         Describe what a famine of “hearing of the Words of the Lord” might be like:

·         What practical things can we do to “pursue the Lordship of His Word”?

Friday:

·         (Amos 5:4, 6, 14, Matthew 6:28-34)  What is promised us if we seek the Lord?

·         What has been on your mind this week that has caused you to “worry”?

·         (Colossians 3:15-17)  My prayer for you this week

This Upcoming Sunday:  Read through the book of Obadiah a few times…
